This project is an innovative joint venture between Peterborough Regional College and Anglia Ruskin University. It is an ‘incubator’ campus which provides purpose-built accommodation for the college’s HE courses and helps to raise the University’s profile in Peterborough - with the long term aim of increasing capacity by 7,000 students.

 

The centre is an integral part of a wider masterplan to develop an ‘education quarter’ in Peterborough. It opens onto a new public square shared with two facilities for Peterborough Regional College, for which designs were carried out by Dyer.

The building incorporates facilities for all types of teaching and learning, encouraging knowledge transfer across private and public zones. There are hot-desks for self-directed learning, traditional teaching rooms, break-out zones and quiet study areas - all benefitting from open access ICT provision.

 

The building’s principal design feature is a triple-height atrium in which the main lecture theatre is dramatically suspended. Non-teaching accommodation includes learning support suites, a student union and open-plan offices. The project was successfully delivered within a tight timescale, driven by academic term dates.
